Lada Niva At 45

So an important date is upon us.

April 5, 2022 marks 45 years since the start of production of the VAZ-2121 Niva SUV, the first ever SUV in the world, which is now known as LADA NIVA Legend. 

Since then almost 2.5 million cars have been manufactured, of which 700,000 were exported to more than 100 countries.

And here are promo pictures of the Lada Niva from the yesteryear.

This is the current version, Lada Niva Legend, I believe.

Spotted...cars in Moscow: 50 Years of Lada in April 2020 - Lada 4x4

On April 19, 2020 the Lada car marque marks 50 years in automotive business; and to celebrate the occasion here are some pictures of Lada's current 4x4 model formerly known as the Niva.


The Lada 4x4 (formerly the Lada Niva) is currently Lada's oldest model in continuous production and one of the oldest in the world, having started in 1979.


Also, the Lada 4x4 is currently Lada's only model whose mechanicals are derived in some measure from the original Italian progenitor, the Fiat 124.

Jean-Claude Briavoine, born October 7, 1934 is a French racer who specialized in raids rallies.

He began his career with the French Rally Championship Gr.2 on Ford Capri (2nd in 72, and winner of the Tour de France automobile group in 1973) and then went on to the all-terrain rally on Bab Buggy, winner of the French Cup in 74 , he finished 3 rd of the Abidjan-Nice raid in 76 and won in 77 on Renault 12 SINPAR, participated in many Paris-Dakar, third in 81, second in 82 in a LADA NIVA. He won the rallies of Tunisia then the one of Algeria in 1981. He won in 1983 the rally of the Pharaohs always for Lada Poch.

Jean-Claude Briavoine also participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, for example the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1977, he finished 17 th in 1978 on Porsche GT.

JC Briavoine is a Grand Touring instructor for "Pilotage-passion".
